Is it the job? Or is it you?
Hey there! Welcome back to Focus on You! A podcast dedicated to the individual with something to say but not quite sure how to say it. I’m Dachia.
I started this podcast as a resource for small business builders.
And I do love small business builders. The tinier the better, as far as I’m concerned. But I did start thinking that there are plenty of other people out there who are not building a business or even thinking about doing so, who could really use some of the same help.
I think we, human beings, are incredibly creative and expressive. And I think so much of the unhappiness we see in our fellow man can be ascribed to living a much smaller life than they can or deserve.
They go to work, to a job that is ho hum and they do their shopping and go home and maybe watch some tv and go to be and do it all again.
And what I hear from so many of them is how much they hate their job.
And while I get it, I think they are wanting more from their job than it can provide.
If you have a job where you just do very simple task that involves nothing of you personally; where there is no expressive outlet, AND you do not do anything outside of that job where you express yourself and become more of who you can become, you will be miserable.
You’ll be depressed.
You’ll share memes of the dog running out the gate and saying Thank God it’s Friday!
Now, as a supporter of building a teeny tiny business where a person can create a solid life they enjoy, let me say that I’m absolutely supportive of a person building something where they can quit their job and create something of need to a number of people.
However, I think there are so many people who could happily stay at their job, as droll as it os, if they simply learned how to express themselves in their private time.
I don’t mean simply posting memes on facebook. It might be that that is all that some people need.
But personally, I doubt it.
I think we have an inherent need to create and express. We have something to say. Something to share.
And furthermore, the very fact that we feel we have something more to us, is. proof we do.
We may not know what that is yet, but it is waiting to be uncovered. And as much as you need to share it, the rest of the world needs it to be shared.
It may eventually grow into some sort of side hustle or tiny business, and that’s great. But if it never amounts to more than a hobby you share at craft fairs or with friends at Christmas, it is still important.
I have a few friends who simply needed a website to share what they were doing.
And I myself have used building websites and recording podcasts to help me find what feels right for me.
You may simply need to create a LinkedIn profile and write articles there or create a group on Facebook for like minded people.
Whatever your platform is, I’d like to help you find it if I can.
One suggestion I have is to find 3 new ways to express something.
Now that could be either saying the same thing in the same way but on 3 new platforms; for example if you’ve never done anything with video, you could record a video of yourself sharing your message and either post it on Facebook or youtube or tiktok, but you could also find 3 different ways to express your message. Create a meme on Canva, and post it to whatever social media you are already on, or create a survey asking for input or join a group…
My goal is to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and try some things.
If you spend the majority of your time on Facebook, give twitter a shot. Pick a couple platforms that you’ve never really tried and dive into them. Enjoy that process. Don’t look at it as a chore. Give it a week or a month to really feel it out. And if after that period of time, it doesn’t click with you or you don’t see yourself there, it’s ok. Try another one.
I would advise you though to really give it a chance.
Go check out other people that are on that platform. Read their posts. Check out their content and their message.
I promise you that you will be closer to determining your own message and what you want to say and how to say it if you do so.
The membership site is open. Go try it for the 5 day free trial. If you have any trouble accessing it or anything at all, contact me. I’m super easy to get a hold of. Email me at dachia@dachia.com, or leave me a voicemail on any of my websites… or find me on just about any social media platform.
In fact, if you just want to share an idea or get opinion, contact me. You don’t need to be having trouble to connect with me.
Share a story, a picture of your dog.. whatever.
I’ll be back next week. Also, please share this podcast with anybody you know who could use some pep talk and some guidance on getting started expressing themselves online.
If you are getting some benefit or enjoyment out of this podcast, I’d love to see a review wherever you listen to podcasts.
And you are not getting anything out of it, I encourage you to find another podcast. Honestly. There are so many great podcasts out there. Find one that works for you.
Life is too short to spend any of it on something that you get no benefit from.
See ya next week.
